Hi I'm Lex!

Well, I'm actually Alexa and have only ever been known as Lex to my close friends and family until recent years when Amazon commandeered my name and gave it to a voice controlled assistant, now found in people's homes the world over! So, Lex it is!

I've always been the person with a camera attached to my hip. The person who would document the birthday, the sleepover, the holiday, the big night out, the wedding, the christening, the get together. It was a win-win situation. I loved taking pictures, and people loved looking at them and reliving the moments (once I'd got the film developed!). Digital cameras came along and I was naturally an early adopter - I still remember the first trip I went on with my two best friends to Blackpool and the sheer volume of photos we took on my little point and shoot! The novelty of being unrestricted by film and the cost of developing it!

What's changed is that now everyone is a photographer. Everyone carries a camera in their pocket. The problem with this is that it's very hard to a) be present in the moment and b) actually be in the picture yourself without having three selfie chins!

It may sound ironic but I actually requested no smartphones during my wedding ceremony as I didn't want the professional photos to show a sea of people holding up devices. Plus I wanted people to actually experience the moment with us rather than through a screen.

However, when it's not my own big day, I'm still happy to be that person behind the camera, witnessing your everyday glimmers with the people you love the most in the world. I really believe in the power of photographs to take you right back to the time and place the photos were taken, and I think they play an important role in forming those memories and passing them on to the next generation. My two daughters already love looking at photos of their earlier years, especially when I'm in those photos with them.

The best way to be in those photos with your family is to put the phone down and invite someone like me into your home, or your favourite place, to capture you, all together, living in that ordinary day to day moment.
